BAPS Mandir, Lilburn, GA
A Mandir is a Hindu place of worship – a haven for spirituality and a place of paramount peace. The Mandir of BAPS Shri Swaminarayan in Lilburn is part of a center that supports Hindu culture values through social and spiritual activities. http://atlanta.baps.org/ It was inaugurated in August of 2007. The compound is located at the corner of Rockbridge Road and Lawrenceville Highway and also contains classrooms, meeting space, and a public cafeteria. Additional constriction is under way at this time.Kathy Fincher
Kathy Fincher’s creative process
In September 2011 Mary and I attended a fund raising event to support Rainbow Village, Duluth, GA, and I was asked to shoot a few photographs. http://rainbowvillage.org/ This organization provides transitional housing for homeless families with children. Many local businesses provided items for bid in silent and live auctions.
One vendor I got to know was Kathy Fincher, a Duluth artist nationally known for depicting children, landscapes and still life in a soft painting style with strong storytelling elements. http://www.kafincher.com/ She is described as an inspirational artist who creates “a unique pastel painting style of romantic realism." Ms. Fincher frequently uses dry pastels on paper and they are usually called paintings. http://www.paintmaking.com/grinding_pastels.htm One of her most popular creations is titled “Here's the Church”.

The King Memorial
Washington, DC
The King National Memorial dedication was scheduled for the weekend of August 26-28, the anniversary of the 1963 march on Washington, DC, in which Dr. King delivered a speech titled "I Have A Dream". Hurricane Irene scuttled plans to officially open the 7 acre monument on the Tidal Basin in Washington, but the site was open to any intrepid visitor bold enough to ignore very severe weather warnings. Few took this opportunity, and it was nice to capture some clear and un-obstructed images. I want to return on a different day with the crowds.

My portfolio details
The Commercial Photography curriculum at GTC requires a print portfolio for graduation. See mine at
http://brucewhalliburtonportfolio.blogspot.com
My portfolio is basically 10.6” x 7.2” images (or the reverse for verticals) printed on 14.25” x 17.25” paper (Epson Exhibition Fiber). They are displayed in clear loose-leaf sleeves (Itoya) in a zippered ring binder (Prat).
If an image is chosen to hang in the Portfolio Show, it is re-printed large (major dimension = 21") and matted with glass in a 34"x34" black frame. These choices are displayed from August-September in the show at Art Station in Stone Mountain, GA. At the end of September they are moved to GTC and hang for a year in the halls near the Commercial Photography office (building 100).

YouTube
I never use royalty free music or secure permission to use pop songs in my movies, and as a result the audio is sometimes blocked by YouTube and the companies that own the rights. There was a simple way around this (change the pitch slightly up or down) but it seems some greedy music owners are on to this tactic.
Another way around this situation is to take a few easy steps into YouTube’s digital rights procedures. You find this place when you discover your video has been silenced. YT provides you a path to a menu of possible redress options. It doesn’t help to cry about non-commercial use of something you bought (or stole online), but it does help to copy and paste some legal verbiage about Fair Use of Copyright protected materials. You can spend an hour searching threads on the net to find this key, or contact me if you find your self in this pickle. Or make silent movies. They were very popular for decades.
YouTube
I am posting a mix of old and new movies on my channel. During the past four years I spent a lot of time following the Duluth High Swim and Dive team, and I am up-loading a few movies from the 2009-2010 season. Other newer stuff is from last summer’s Multimedia-I class (the internationally acclaimed statement video) and a short look at the first Fashion shoot. I also have a new avatar for the channel.
